Swap your toothpaste ! If you are using a toothpaste that contains sodium laurel sulphate, it might be causing or at least aggravating your canker sores. There are plenty of toothpastes around that do not have any sodium laurel sulphate and you might find that this helps
Rinse your mouth with salt water. To do this, use slightly warm water mixed with salt. Rinse well and repeat if necessary. Then rinse with a peroxide (check with you chemist first for a suitable peroxide) and then rinse again with water. This should help numb the pain.
Put salt on the wound. This is a very painful solution but rubbing salt into the sore and leaving it there for 5-10 minutes. This will both cause pain and healing! The pain will last for about 20 seconds and after the the healing should begin. Many people have told me that the next day their canker sore was on the mend, or already almost gone!
Use a strong mouthwash. Mouthwashes can really help to kill the bacteria in the canker sore and help the healing begin. Like putting salt on the sore using mouthwash can be a painful experience but it should help you on the road to recovery. If you don’t want want to rinse with mouthwash what you could do is dip a qtip into a small amount of mouthwash and then rub it gently over your canker sore.
Some people swear that putting baking soda for two minutes on your canker sore can help to both relive the pain quickly and to help it heal quickly. Then rinse your mouth with warm water.
Put a wet tea bag in your mouth (try and get it onto your canker sore) and leave it there for as long as needed. After a period of time the pain of the canker sore should start going down and you can remove the tea bag.
Here is one that you should not do too often! Get 1 asprin pill and put it on your canker sore. After a while the aspirin should dissolve into it. Rinse out your mouth with warm water. This will numb the pain very effectively. Now you can apply salt directly to it without suffering too much pain. After 20 seconds or so of having the salt on the sore, rinse your mouth out with warm water. You can repeat the salt part of this whenever you need, but do not use aspirin pills very often (1 a day should be enough!).
